Pregnancy is often seen as the most beautiful time of woman’s life but sometimes it can bring along many aches and pains as the body is trying to adjust with physical and emotional changes happening over a short period of time. You might experience various physical pains and aches as your growing belly shifts the centre of balance and muscles in your lower back and glutes (buttocks) have to work harder to prevent you from falling over. Hormonal changes in woman’s body might make you feel stressed or anxious, or even cause nausea or calf cramps. When an expectant mum lives with chronic stress, her baby in utero is also affected by the constant flow of stress hormones circulating in the maternal blood stream. It is important to remember that nurturing yourself during pregnancy means also nurturing your baby at the same time.
Pregnancy massage is a special type of remedial massage which is adapted to suit the specific needs of pregnancy. Our therapists have completed professional training in pregnancy massage, to be able to fully understand what is going on in woman’s body during that special time and which techniques are safe to use.
In our clinic, expectant mums can enjoy their massage during first weeks of their pregnancy on a special pregnancy bed which has a hollow for the growing belly. As the belly grows we will be moving into supported side-lying and elevated sitting positions to make sure mums and babies are safe and comfortable all the way through their massages.
We recommend 60 min full body massage during pregnancy with head, hand and feet massage included. We understand the need of expectant mums to be very protective of their little growing baby and never massage stomach without asking permission, e.g. stomach massage helps in releasing specific muscles.
If there have been any complications with your pregnancy we kindly ask discussing with your doctor if massage is safe with your condition prior your massage appointment. After all, we want the best possible outcome for you and your baby!
